Interviews
So what does it take to get hired? This is a common question lots of people ask. I think there is a mind shift in the way people are interviewing and also on how people are interviewed. In the technology world there is a huge gap in the way this occurs. I have been in three diff kinds of companies and have seen the way the interviews go through. Here are my take aways from it
1. I think no matter what it all boils down to the day of the interview and whom you talk to.
2. Presentation is important but its not the only thing that matters. Personally I don’t care if someone comes in a suit or not. In fact I have had people come in shorts. Lots of time this speaks to the character and confidence of the person.
3. I personally prefer a pragmatic programmer.
4. Technical skills and problem solving capabilities are important. However, soft skills are equally important.
5. I tend to ask few questions every time. Does Title matter? How do you learn something new? What do you do outside work?
6. Even though you don’t get to work on some technology it is always wise to know about it. At the least minimum you should be able to have conversation with someone about it.
7. Being in technology you need to keep up with latest news and tools
You get one shot with the interviewers to impress them and show that you are capable and would be a good fit.
